VASCO DA GAMA OFFICES was established in August 2008 by six lawyers, Kimihito Kato, Hironari Hashioka, Shinsuke Ishiwatarti, Tomoyuki Kataoka, Noriyuki Okawara, Miki Matsumoto and one certified public accountant, Toshiro Matsubuchi.

VASCO DA GAMA is a Portuguese voyager who flourished from the end of 15th century to the beginning of 16th century. In July 1497, GAMA set off Lisbon in a ship named “Sao Gabriel” by order of The Portuguese King Manuel Ⅰ. In November of the same year, GAMA came over South Africa’s Cape of Good Hope, and reached Calicut in south-western India. They say that GAMA is the first European person who discovered the route to India. We named our office after VASCO DA GAMA , because we aim to make an office which always challenges new areas with great inquiring mind after the great courage and challenging spirit of GAMA who set off on an unknown voyage to find hope(Good Hope).

We think three key words - “specialized” “internationalized” “one-stop service”- are very important to support our clients in this complex and changing 21st century. Current business is very complex and highly specialized. We are aiming to provide our clients with legal services which meet their needs by specializing in certain practice areas such as entertainment law, sports law, media law, license law, corporate law (including M&A) and finance law and by accumulating knowledge and know-how in these areas.
Also, current business is internationalized. You can say that businesses developing only in Japan are few. In order to support our clients’ success in business, we are able to respond to the internationalization in legal practice. Further, in order to support our clients’ business effectively and efficiently, we think we have to make “one-stop professional firm” where lawyers, certified public accountants and other professionals work together to provide sufficient service required by clients. In our office, lawyers, certified public accountants and judicial scriveners always work together. We are fully confident that we are able to provide our clients with real one-stop service.
